Centre launches memorial lectures on Du Bois, Padmore and Nkrumah

Accra, Dec. 10, GNA - Mrs Bernice Deh-Kumah, Acting Director of Du Bois Centre, a Pan-African Advocate, on Friday launched the up-coming memorial lecture series of Dr. William E.B. Du Bois, Mr George Padmore and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for their contributions to the achievement of Ghana's political independence.

Mrs Deh-Kumah said the event was scheduled to start on the evening of December 16-17 at the Centre.

She announced this at a press conference to mark the achievement of political heroes who helped in the struggle against colonisation. It is an annual programme to commemorate the death and celebrate the achievements of political activists across the African Continent. Topics for the two-day event are: "The Life and Legacy of Pan-Africanism and Its Connection to the African Continent" and "Pan-Africanism and Women's Roles in the Health Sector". The speakers are Dr. Delores M. Walters, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Northern Kentucky University, USA and Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso, Senior Research Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs (LECIA), University of Ghana.

Mrs Deh-Kumah said in view of government's policy for a better Ghana in relation to education, peace and unity, topics were selected to educate the public and Africans on the Continent and the Diaspora.

She said there would be a film presentation on December 11, to highlight the importance and achievement of these great personalities, and invited the public to come, learn and share the wealth of knowledge to be delivered by the distinguished speakers. 10 Dec. 10
