Central Region Teachers Upgrade Knowledge In Lifeskills

Cape Coast, Aug 18, - Mr P.K. Yartei-Kubin, Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, has said the teaching of life skills as an academic and vocational subject is to expose pupils to competencies for self-employment. Life skill teachers are therefore to research into the psychological and sociological factors that influence pupils behaviour to the subject to ensure appropriate teaching skills. Mr Yartei-Kubin was speaking at a five-day workshop for 50 life skills teachers from the Central Region Junior Secondary Schools which opened at the Mfantsipim Secondary School, at Cape Coast today. The workshop is organised by the Central region branch of the Ghana Home Economics Association and the Saskatoon branch of the Home Economics Association in Canada as part of a three- year project on human resource development. It will update the knowledge of the participants in the teaching of skills, such as family resource management, clothing and textiles, health and nutrition and the preparation and use of teaching and learning aids.
