Buipe (N/R), April 24, GNA - Mr Issifu Sualisu Euribi,
President's nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central
Gonja, on Thursday failed to get the two thirds majority by the
assembly to confirm him as the DCE.
In an election by the 32-member assembly in which he was highly tipped to be overwhelmingly approved, he polled 20 votes in his favour, as against 11 with one spoilt ballot paper. After the declaration of the results by the electoral officer, an
irate youth demanded that the spoilt ballot should be declared in his
favour to which the Electoral Official declined. The nominee is therefore to appear for confirmation again within
ten days.
The Assembly earlier on took over four hours of intensive lobbying to get one of the two assembly members, namely Frankie Agbozo and A. K. Kanamu contesting for the post of Presiding Member to step down for the other. Mr. A. K. Kanamu finally stepped down for Mr. Agbozo who in an election polled 21 votes to 11 to be elected as the Presiding
Member of the Assembly.
