Ceasefire now - Addai-Nimoh to EC commissioners

Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh has appealed to the commissioners of the EC to cease fire Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh has appealed to the commissioners of the EC to cease fire

A onetime presidential aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh is entreating commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC) to cease fire over their counter allegations.

There have been counter-accusations between the EC chair and her deputies after some faceless staff of EC petitioned the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo calling for her removal.

The EC Boss is being accused of “single-handedly” signing contracts without adhering to the Public Procurement Act.

She has accused her two deputies Amadu Sulley and Madam Georgina of gross insubordination, corruption and arrogance.

But speaking to Ultimatefmonline.com, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Mampong constituency admonished the commissioners to desist from spewing ‘venom’ against each other, fearing that they might lose their credibility and moral authority.

‘…Absolutely, their respective individual outburst will not resolve the issues unless they make their cases before the appropriate body. They should ceasefire now. Failure on the part of the commissioners to act in an appropriate manner will render them lose credibility and moral authority,’ he advised.

Mr Addai-Nimoh suggested to the appropriate stakeholders to ensure that cohesion is restored at the commission calling on the Auditor General to initiate audit in the allegations of financial malfeasance.

‘On the other hand, if the internal issues are related to inter-personal differences which is negatively impacting on the EC’s service delivery, a separate approach should be adopted to restore cohesion and normalcy to the institution. If the current internal issues at the EC border on financial malfeasance, then the appropriate constitutional and legal procedure should be invoked and applied to deal with such a matter. I believe such a procedure is outlined in the constitution and/or the Act establishing the EC. Auditor General can also initiate financial audit as well,’ he suggested.

He called on the various political parties not to wade into the matter for the purpose of political gains or loss.

The former law maker entreated politicians to work together to promote and protect the integrity of the EC.
