Cases of Meningitis recorded at Damongo SHS

Fear has gripped students of Damango Senior High School (SHS) in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region as one of them has been confirmed dead, and at least 25 others admitted at the Damango Government Hospital, believed to have been afflicted by meningitis.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that Nantomah Fadila, the deceased, was a first-year Home Economics student from Tamale.

She reportedly collapsed in class and was rushed to the hospital where she died shortly on admission.

A resident, Abdul Rauf, disclosed to DAILY GUIDE that the other 25 students were responding to treatment.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Damango, Saeed Muazu Jibreal, revealed that surveillance had been stepped up on the campus while health authorities had equally been notified about the matter to closely monitor the students.

Meanwhile, they are currently writing their end-of-term examinations as they prepare for the Christmas festivities.

Some of the students, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, expressed fear over the suspected outbreak of meningitis and appealed to the school authorities and the district and regional health directorate to stop the imminent spread of the disease.
