Car dealer appears in court for fraud

Kweku Agavor (aka Fofo) a Kasoa based self-styled car dealer, on Friday appeared before Agona Swedru Circuit Court for defrauding a businessman of 9,600 Ghana cedis under the pretext of supplying him car.

Agavor pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of 32,000 Ghana cedis with four sureties to reappear on January 18, 2013.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Asante, Head of Judicial Police of Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command, told the court, presided over by Mr Nathaniel Osam, that Mr Bright Koranteng, the complainant, gave the money to the accused about two years ago to supply him a car.

ASP Asante said the accused refused to supply the car or give back the money to the complainant.

Counsel for the accused, Mr Fredrick Selby, told the court that his client would refund the money to the complainant on January 18, 2013.

He said remanding the accused into prison custody would not help him to make enough money to pay the debt and pleaded with the court to grant him bail.
