Cape Coast High Court registers more marriages last year

A total of GH¢3,425 was realized in the registration of 287 marriages in the Cape Coast High court last year as against GH¢3,715 received for 319 marriages in 2011.

Mr Lawrence Quansah, a registrar at the Cape Coast district court who made this known to the GNA in an interview, said 111 marriages were recorded at the court premises whiles 176 church marriages were issued with certificates last year, against 105 and 214 marriages registered respectively in 2011.

He said it cost GH¢15.00 to have a marriage registered at the court whiles those who get married at the church and are issued with certificates at the court pay GH¢10.00.

Mr Quansah said one only needed to file an affidavit after which the couples would be given forms to fill which are examined for twenty-one days, adding that, notices are then given after the twenty-one days of examination and couples are issued with certificates of marriage.

He in this regard advised couples to have their marriages registered at the court stressing that they stand the chance to gain compensation or awards when there is a breach of agreement.
