Calls for ‘prosecuting documents’ legitimate – Counsel for Opuni

A member of the legal team of former COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Opuni, Edudzi Tamakloe, has said the team's request for prosecuting documents is legal.

Lawyers for Dr. Opuni have filed a motion demanding the release of all documents the state intends to use in prosecuting its case against their client, a request Deputy Attorney General Godfred Dame has resisted.

However, the court presided over by C.J Honyenugah decided to adjourn the case pending the determination of a similar motion filed in the case involving ex-NCA officials and state.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Thursday, Edudzi Tamakloe explained that the whole concept of prosecution is not to achieve conviction at all cost but to put the bare facts before the Judge for him to draw conclusions based on the facts.

According to him, if you go to court and you want a conviction at all cost, then you want persecution and not prosecution.

“We have asked the court to make the documents available to us to follow the trail,” he added.
