CPP promises good governance

Konongo (Ash), May 15, GNA- Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, flagbearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP), said a CPP government would practice good governance as pertained under late President Kwame Nkrumah's regime.

He said successive governments after the overthrow of the CPP Government in 1966 had brought untold hardships to Ghanaians and that the CPP if given the chance would rebuild the nation after years of ineffective administration.

Dr Nduom said these when he called on Nana Batafo Acheampong Nti, chief of Konongo, at Konongo as part of his tour of Ashanti Region. The CPP flagbearer expressed regret at the collapse of industries established by the CPP, which he said could have been major sources of employment for the youth.

Dr Nduom said the mismanagement of the economy coupled with the unavailability of jobs had forced most Ghanaians to embark on fruitless journeys in search of greener pastures.

He said the CPP had a track record of improving the livelihood of the people and a CPP government would assist the people to invest in economically viable ventures to improve their living conditions.

Dr Nduom assured the people of Konongo that he would upgrade the township and other mining communities when voted to power. Nana Nti praised the CPP for its past achievements and expressed hoped that it would provide quality leadership when given the chance. He entreated the CPP flagbearer to seek the amendment of the 1992 Constitution to allow for the election of district chief executives (DCEs).

Nana Nti alleged that the current arrangement in which DCEs were appointed by the President of the Republic of Ghana had made most of them arrogant, undermining traditional authorities. He also said the present situation had resulted in the relegation of chieftaincy to the background in respect with activities of district assemblies since chiefs had no representation there.
