CPP poised to win power in 2008 - Delle

Sunyani, Nov. 15, GNA - Dr Edmund N. Delle, National Chairman of Convention People's Party (CPP) at the weekend said the Party was poised to win power in December 2008 to enable Ghanaians enjoy Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah's vision of a prosperous nation.

He said the country abound in unequalled resources that Dr Nkrumah aspired to lead the nation to harness for accelerated growth but was short-lived in the advent of the 1966 coup d'etat that toppled the Government.

In an interview with Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Dr Delle stressed that countries like Malaysia, Korea, Japan and others known as "Asian Tigers" in economic terms did not possess the immense resources that Ghana and for that matter Africa had.

He expressed regret that whilst those countries were developing in leaps and bounds, African countries were rather wallowing in abject poverty, huge external debts, diseases, wars and other nation-wrecking calamities.

The CPP National Chairman noted that Dr Nkrumah emphasised that a liberated African continent must be tied to its economic development, which must start from individual countries.

Dr Delle said it was therefore, imperative to share Dr Nkrumah's vision with both Ghanaians and Africans so that collectively, the vestiges of colonialism could be shed once and for all for effective nation building.

Earlier addressing Constituency and Brong Ahafo Regional Executives of the Party at a Capacity Building Workshop, he urged the members to remain resolute in the ideals of the party and work hard towards victory in the 2008 elections.

He said CPP had capable men to steer affairs of the country to meet aspirations of the people, especially those at the grassroots, as Dr Nkrumah desired.

Dr Delle said the party had a blueprint cast in the vision of Dr Nkrumah and called for unity among Nkrumahists so that with a common purpose they could achieve the desired goals that were disrupted by the 1966 coup.

Dr Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of CPP said it was the only political party that could bring hope to Ghanaians and capable to steer affairs of the country to realise Dr Nkrumah's dreams. He urged members of the party to bury their differences and forge ahead in unity to win the 2008 elections.
