Accra, April 20, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) on Thursday said it would commemorate the 34th anniversary of the death of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, First President of Ghana, on Thursday April 27, 2006.

A statement signed by Dr Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of CPP, said the event expected to be solemn and soul searching, would be a day of remembrance for all who espouse the ideals of "the most illustrious political figure of the 20th century", and expressed the hope that it would bring together all Nkrumaist at home and abroad. In addition wreaths would be laid on behalf of the Party, the Elders, Youth and Women's League and tertiary institution branches of the Party, after which the National Chairman and other leaders of the CPP would address the gathering "For the CPP, the occasion would serve as a forum for the meeting of minds, revival of comradeship and commitment to the rebuilding of the Party to assume its proper position on the political landscape of Ghana and Africa", it said.

It said it was also expected that Nkrumaist would work assiduously to close their ranks to facilitate the harnessing of all material resources for the task ahead. According to the statement, the task to revive the fortunes of the Party demanded selflessness and sacrifice devoid of unbridled ambition and acrimony, adding that there was the need to build a formidable platform for leaders to enjoy the support of the rank and file.
