CPP, NRP, PNC Still Unity Bound

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Dr Adolf Lutterodt, has declared his party's intention to form a united party with other political parties in the country so as to satisfy the long awaited legitimate aspirations of Ghanaians when voted into power.

He gave the names of the parties as the National Reform Party ( NRP), and the People's National Convention (PNC), respectively.

Declaring this in an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, when the party held a get-together to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Ghana's independence, at its regional office in Accra last week, he said Ghanaians have not seen any change in the economy, and are looking forward to CPP to deliver, as it is going to rule the country in the 2004 elections.

Asked about the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their first year of governance, Chronicle learnt from him that they have failed to fulfil the promises they made during the campaign era.

He revealed to Chronicle that the NPP government has not been able to abolish the cash and carry system as promised.

"No government will be able to deliver its promise within one year," he however lamented.

In a speech to grace the occasion, he called on his fellow comrades to learn from their predecessors and use their experiences to transform their party into an Nkrumaist party with a clear focus and also educate Ghanaians to know the unique human-centred values inherent in the ideology of the CPP.

"For us in the CPP the significance of Ghana's independence means the adoption of a reasonable level of self-reliance in her development," he underscored.

Dilating further, he said after 45 years of independence, Ghanaians are still wallowing in abject poverty and our governments are still globe-trotting for neo-colonialist help.

To this end, Lutterodt said as a party, they have confidence in the future of this country, and are prepared to serve the people of this country in a manner that would be most acceptable to them.

In a related development, Mr Goosie Tanoh, flagbearer of the National Reform Party (NRP), told the enthusiastic comrades that the party will build an adjustable capital and provide health for all, adding that Ghana is the name he wished to proclaim.
