CPP Must Not Contest 2012 Presidential Election - Ben Ephson

Renowned pollster Ben Ephson, says the Convention People’s Party (CPP), must focus on winning more seats in Parliament rather than contest the Presidential election.

In an interview with XYZ News, Mr. Ephson said the CPP is better off strategizing to improve its strength in Parliament than fighting the bigger parties for the presidency.

He said “personally, my option as a strategy would have been for the CPP not to contest the presidential election at all. In politics you have to face the truth and plan your strategy; the NPP and the NDC have 180 seats out of the 230 as safe seats but the CPP will not do well”.

He added that “I believe that the CPP needs to prepare towards 2016 by having maybe 10 or 15 members of parliament and this can only come about if one of the two parties decides to give them seats which they have to negotiate for”.

“But the CPP has decided that they want to contest and if they want to contest there are a few things they must do to improve upon the below two percent their presidential candidates have been having”.

The CPP on Saturday elected Dr. Abu Sakara Foster as its flagbearer to contest NPP's Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President Mills in the upcoming December Presidential election.
