COPP to negotiate for enhance salaries

Accra, May 5, GNA- The Conference of Polytechnic Principals (COPP) on Thursday, appealed to the Government to give members the mandate to negotiate with the Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) for enhanced salaries and conditions of service. In a letter to the Minister of Education and Sports, the COPP said the mandate would prevent disruption of academic work. "In view of the threat of resumption of the strike which was suspended prior to the general elections, we would be glad if you would take measures to prevent disruption of work on the Polytechnic campuses," the letter said.

The document asked the sector Minister to convene a meeting on the issue.

Last month, the National Executive Council of the TEWU, which is an affiliate of the Trades Union Congress, resolved at a meeting to embark on a strike action on Friday, May 13, if the Ministry failed to give it the mandate to commence the negotiations with COPP. 05 May 05
