CLOGSAG says not politically aligned

Accra, Aug. 21, GNA - Mr Edward Tennyson, acting president of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana, (CLOGSAG), has said the association has no political affiliation with any political party.

He said: "whatever action taken is our own struggle to fight for workers rights and we do not want anyone to drag us into politics."

Mr Tennyson, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, dismissed allegations that CLOGSAG's demonstrations were undertaken by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and that the demonstrators were not actual civil servants.

He said the demonstrations so far held were to press for their right to negotiate on behalf of members, better conditions of service, which is a privilege other institutions backed by law, were enjoying, he added.

He said CLOGSAG had already appealed to the President, in a memorandum, which President Mills had acknowledged two weeks after the July 8, demonstration to the Castle.

Mr Tennyson said the association had been the mouthpiece of its members for over 40 years, before the establishment of the NPP or the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said CLOGSAG would be vocal on issues affecting the destiny of its members under any government.
