CLOGSAG Unhappy With TUC

THE CIVIL and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has taken a swipe at the leadership of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) for sabotaging a ceremony to honour its members at the just-ended May Day national parade held in Sunyani.

According to CLOGSAG, the TUC leadership prevented President Mills from presenting a brand new pick-up to its Brong Ahafo secretariat though the presentation was billed to take place.

A statement issued in Sunyani and signed by Brong Ahafo Regional Secretary of CLOGSAG, Clifford Yakubu Dramani, said “the refusal of the TUC leadership to allow His Excellency the President, Prof J.E.A Mills to present an award to the Civil and Local Government Staff Association Secretariat was nothing in any opinion but a show to envy and sabotage.”

He mentioned that the action of the TUC leadership nearly marred the beauty of the programme as CLOGSAG members attempted to boycott the event until their leadership intervened to restrain them.

It will be recalled that CLOGSAG members refused to take part in the march past in protest against the action of the TUC leadership and later held a parallel national parade at a different location in the city to honour its members.

“What happened on May 1in the full glare of spectators at the parade grounds by leadership of the TUC was unacceptable and must be condemned,” he pointed out.

Mr. Dramani noted that CLOGSAG was however shocked to see awards being given to certain workers at the same parade and the president taking a group photograph with the awardees contrary to the claims of the TUC leadership.

He stated that organized labour in Brong Ahafo in collaboration with the Regional Coordinating Council had committees put in place to steer administration of activities for the celebration.

According to him, if for any reason the leadership of TUC had reason to omit any planned activity from the programme it should have been done in consultation with the regional planning committee because any lapse in the programme is a discredit to the regional minister and his staff.

Mr. Dramani entreated the leadership of TUC to take note of the anomaly, saying “If the presence of other organized labour is not needed at subsequent May Day celebrations, mention should be made of it to avert any future embarrassment.”
