CHRAJ staff beat war drums over boss' hotel bills

Staff of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) are locked up in a meeting over the continuous stay in office by their boss Lauretta Vivian Lamptey.

According to Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare, who is at the headquarters of the anti-graft body, the workers are up in arms against the head of finance “for making a lot of money available” for the embattled head to live in a hotel to execute her official duties.

Ms. Lamptey has been under pressure in recent times following controversy over her official accommodation. The head of the anti-graft agency has been accused of abusing her office after spending over $166,500 of state funds on hotel bills while her official residence undergoes renovation.

She recently moved in after severe public backlash.

Asare said the workers want the finance boss to resign since he was unable to make money available to pay for electricity supply at the Commission but pumped a whopping sum on the commissioner’s hotel bill.

According to state-owned Daily Graphic, since August this year, Ms. Lamptey moved into a hotel after the US$5,500 monthly rent for her apartment at the African Union (AU) Village expired. The daily rate for the hotel is $456.25.

That means from July 2011 when she was appointed to July 2014 when her rent at the AU Village expired, a period of 37 months, $203,500 was spent on her rent accommodation, including utility.
