CHRAJ boss has ‘overstayed’ her welcome – Mornah

PNC General Secretary, Bernard Mornah is appealing to the CHRAJ boss to “voluntarily” resign from office before the President activates the procedure to kick her out.

According to Mornah, recent reports of financial abuse against the head of the anti-graft agency offends the integrity of her office.

Lauretta Lamptey is embroiled in a controversy over her official accommodation. She is reported to have, within 37 months – from July 2011 when she was appointed to July 2014 when her rent at the AU Village expired – spent US$203,500 on rent and utilities, at the expense of the State.

She is currently lodging at a hotel and paying the Cedi equivalent of $456.25 per day, in the interim, as her official residence, which was inhabited by her predecessor, Emile Short, undergoes renovation at a cost of Ghc182, 000.

MP for Nsawam Adoagyire, Frank Ano Dompreh has formally petitioned the president to begin the procedure to remove Lamptey from office as required by law.

Speaking to Citi FM, Tuesday, Mornah said: “From a lame point of view, I think her conduct violently offends the requirement of high moral ground, which is an important qualification for her appointment to that high position”.

“To this end, I think that Lauretta Vivian Lamptey has even overstayed her position, particularly in the light of this exposé. In other jurisdictions, when there have been exposés like this, it does not take public officials even two days to say that for the sake of the office that I occupy, I step aside".
