CHASS calls for revision of Code of Discipline

Takoradi, Sept.20, GNA- Heads of Senior Secondary Schools in the country have called for the revision of the code of discipline for schools because the current code has proved ineffective.

In a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of the four-day meeting of members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) at Takoradi on Friday, they noted that indiscipline has contributed in no small way to the lowering standards in education.

CHASS assured the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education of its commitment to maintain high standards of discipline in schools as a means to achieve quality education.

It called for the provision of sufficient and relevant teaching materials and adequate infrastructure at all levels to enhance high standard of education.

CHASS proposed 30 per cent of the basic monthly salary for all teachers in supervisory positions as incentive and expressed concern about the "Lukewarm attitude of the GES in the handling the issue of supervisory allowance.

The Conference also registered its dissatisfaction over the "Undue delays in the release of Government scholarships by the Scholarship Secretariat", and proposed that beneficiaries of the award pay upfront and be credited when the scholarships are released.

It also proposed the institution of vehicle maintenance fee in view of the increasing difficulty in maintaining school vehicles.
