The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, has emphasized the need for strengthened collaboration with neighbouring countries and border communities to combat transnational crimes, particularly illicit drug trafficking.
Amadu made this call during a courtesy visit to the North East Regional Minister, Tia Ibrahim, at his office in the Regional Coordinating Council, Nalrrigu.
He advocated for a multi-stakeholder approach, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding national security.
The CGI also appealed for assistance in acquiring land for a functional regional headquarters to enhance operational efficiency.
North East Regional Minister, Tia Ibrahim condemned the recent attack on immigration officers at Gbintri, describing it as unacceptable and a threat to national peace and security.
He urged law enforcement agencies to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice, reaffirming his commitment to supporting immigration officers.
The meeting was attended by Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) within the region.
The CGI's two-day tour included visits to checkpoints, offices, and meetings with local chiefs to ask for their support in combating the illicit drug trade.
He also paid courtesy calls on traditional leaders in the region before concluding his tour at the Walewale Municipal Assembly, where he interacted with the Immigration officers in the area.
