CEDECOM engaging in frivolous expenditures - Kwamena Duncan

Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan is calling on the government to take a decision on the Central Regional Development Commission (CEDECOM) for failing on its mandate.

CEDECOM which is touted as the engine of growth of the region as it is supposed to spearhead development, he explained engages in frivolous expenditures and projects which have no bearing in improving livelihood in the region.

Despite the huge funds allocated the body since 2008, Kwamena Duncan said authorities at CEDECOM have not been able to justify such spending and projects.

He is therefore calling on the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Trade which exercise authority over CEDECOM to re-position the body to bring meaningful impact to the people of the region or at best submerge it under the Coastal Development Authority for it to function effectively.

CEDECOM has received backlash in the region over the years on their investments as the group spent over GHC2b to construct a wall around a cemetery at Agona Swedru which they claimed would serve as tourist side.

A lot of markets they built also remain unoccupied as traders find it conducive for habitation.

A supposed pig farm worth millions of Ghana cedis had only less than 20pigs in the pen.
