CAF Champions League: Kotoko supporters chief predicts doom for club

Kotoko are ready to compete in Africa Kotoko are ready to compete in Africa

The Public Relations Officer of Asante Kotoko National Circles Council (Supporters Group) Osei Owusu has predicted doom for the club should they settle on participating in Africa.

Osei Owusu claims the outcome will be disgraceful and disastrous if Asante Kotoko decides to compete on the ticket of Ghana in the CAF Champions League.

The Porcupine Warriors emerged a beneficiary of a decision by the Ghana FA’s Executive Council to cancel the 2019-20 football season declaring all results expunged.

As a result, teams that represented Ghana in the CAF inter clubs competitions last year were once again chosen to do so this term, therefore Kotoko will represent in the CAF Champions League while AshantiGold SC competes in the CAF Confederation Cup.

According to Osei Owusu, the team is not in the best of shape to rub shoulders with Africa’s top clubs hence his preference that the club decides against participating in Africa.

He told Kumasi based OTEC FM, “The current state of the team (Kotoko) is not in good shape. We will be exposed by the North African teams. I will agree with those calling for our withdrawer if there will be no punishment from CAF,”.

“The team should be well prepared and come out solid. The board should take this opportunity to appeal to Manhyia on the one-year player ban. This team is not in good condition for Africa or a new season,” he added.

“A player like Richard Arthur will score only 1 goal if given the opportunity to play 30 matches. It will be a disaster if Kotoko represent Ghana in Africa with this team {squad},” Osei Owusu concluded.
