Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ransford Moses Ninson, the Central Regional Police Commander, on Thursday announced that there would no longer be a mass promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector in the police service.
He said personnel who were eligible for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector would have to pass a written examination before they were promoted.
DCOP Ninson announced this during the opening of a five-day promotional course organized by the Central Regional Police Command for Police Inspectors in the Region who were due for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector.
The Course, being attended by 40 participants drawn from all the districts, is aimed at equipping them with the requisite knowledge to enable them efficiently discharge their duties.
DCOP Ninson said the investment made in organizing the course showed that the Police Administration was poised to educate its front line managers under the Police Service Regulation Act 2012(C.I 76).
He advised the participants not to be complacent with their promotion but take up the new responsibilities, adding that, to whom much is given, much is expected.
The Regional Commander charged the participants to enforce the Service instructions and all other rules and regulations by taking disciplinary action against any junior rank officer who faulted.
“As you are all aware, the Police Service is a disciplined Institution and discipline in the Service is expected to be enforced by you as first line managers,” he added.
He said the Police Administration would not take it lightly with any officer who misconducted himself in the course of the programme and therefore called on all the participants to comport themselves.
