Businessman remanded for fraud

An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday remanded Osei Prempeh, a businessman, in prison custody for allegedly defrauding a colleague of 74 million cedis under the pretext of clearing a container full of goods from the Tema Harbour for him.

The plea of Osei, charged with defrauding by false pretences, was not taken. He will re-appear on January 8, next year.

Assistant Superintendent of Police James Abraham told the tribunal chaired by Mr Imoru Ziblim that last April, Osei and three accomplices, including a white man, collected the money from the complainant, Mr William Ampadu, with the promise to clear the goods.

The prosecutor said Osei and his accomplices disappeared after collecting the money.

A report was made to the police and Osei was arrested.
