Businessman assaults wife for delivering girl

Aflao, April 3, GNA - Mensah Kadzaku, a Businessman at Akatsi has been arraigned before an Aflao Circuit Court for assaulting his wife for delivering a baby girl instead of a boy.

He was said to have pounced on his wife, Miss Celestine Lawal, during an argument over housekeeping money, repeatedly slapped her, while damning the woman for her supposed inability to give him a boy to inherit him.

Kadzaku, 28, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of 5 million cedis with one surety to reappear on April 13, this year. Chief Inspector of Police Pious Cudjoe, in charge of Akatsi, told the Court presided over by Mr Godwin Kwasi-Kumah that Kadzaku and Celestine lived at Akatsi.

He said Celestine delivered a baby girl, the only child of Kadzaku, not long ago.

Mr Cudjoe said at about 0900 hours on November 28, last year, Miss Lawal went to her husband Kadzaku in his store to demand housekeeping money.

He said Kadzaku refused and during an argument called Miss Lawal, a useless women who could not produce a boy for him.

Mr Cudjoe said Kadzaku finally dropped a 2,000 cedi note on the ground ostensibly for Miss Lawal to pick, but as she bent down for the money Kadzaku attacked her with slaps.
