A businessman, Kwasi Boateng has been put before an Accra Circuit Court after thirty-four wrappers of brownish substances suspected to be Indian hemp popularly called ‘wee’ was found on him.
The suspect was put in a court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh and charged with the possession of narcotic drugs. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody and the matter adjourned to October 20, 2015.
Narrating the events leading to the arrest of the accused person, the prosecuting officer ACP Moses Atibilla told the court that on September 26, 2015 the police had a tip off that some persons were dealing in narcotic drugs at A-Lang Awoshie.
Based on that, he said Detective Inspector Cecilia Dwamena and a team of police officers were dispatched to the area and to a specific house with a search warrant.
He said when the house was searched the police found 17 wrappers of a brownish substance suspected to be ‘wee’ and a further search in his Toyota Corolla Salon car with registration number GW1048-15 also revealed 17 more wrappers. The suspect admitted that the drugs belonged to him.
The businessman was subsequently arrested and sent to the police station together with the exhibits where he again admitted ownership of the ‘wee’ in his cautioned statement.
He however failed to disclose the source of his supply and was arraigned after police concluded investigations.
