Buruli Ulcer Ravages B/A

Buruli Ulcer is now a serious threat to the Brong Ahafo Region. The senior medical officer of the Sunyani Government Hospital, Dr George Bonsu, says the number of reported cases keeps rising. Dr Bonsu was presenting a report at a

forum organized by the regional branch of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) at Brong Ahafo Region to round off its activities for last year.

Expressing concern about the alarming rate of the spread of the disease, Dr Bonsu urged inhabitants of the endemic communities to report early signs to the hospital. He was optimistic that with a special research team on the ground, the spread would be controlled.

The Regional Director of the GHS, Alhaji (Dr) Mohammed Bin Ibrahim, on his part, touched on ?zero tolerance for pregnancy-related deaths? in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Emphasising that by 2015 no mother should die from childbirth in the Region, he said that 10 years from now all women in the region would be functionally literate, well informed about how to stay healthy throughout pregnancy and childbirth, and use that information to maintain good health.
