The newly enskinned Bunkporok-Baat of Bunkpurugu, Melchizedek Musah Jamung II, has called on residents and stakeholders to unite to end the protracted chieftaincy dispute and accelerate development in the Bimoba traditional area.

Addressing the public following his enskinment on October 2, 2026, Jamung, also known as Wani-kobik Kan Ber Yambor Foar Ni, said peace, unity, education and improved infrastructure would be central to his leadership.

He described his enskinment not as a personal victory but as an opportunity to serve the people and strengthen their customs, traditions and unity.

“The time has come to forgive each other, to sit under one Baobab tree, and to build Bunkpurugu together,” he said, extending an invitation to chiefs, elders, political and religious leaders, women’s groups, youth organisations and Bimoba citizens at home and abroad to support efforts to restore unity.

Jamung said his immediate priority was to bring families, clans and communities together, stressing that lasting development would be difficult to achieve without peace.

He also pledged to work with stakeholders to promote education, expand opportunities for young people and advocate for improved roads, water supply, healthcare facilities and support for farmers.

Describing agriculture as a backbone of the area’s economy, he said improving conditions for farmers would be an important part of efforts to advance development across Bimoba land.

The chief further appealed to the Government of Ghana to support the transition with adequate security measures to maintain peace and public order.

He specifically called on the North East Regional Coordinating Council, the North East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District Security Council (DISEC) to provide the necessary support during the transition and beyond.

“Peace needs protection, and we trust the government to help us protect the peace we all yearn for,” he said.

Jamung expressed gratitude to the Jamong Royal Family for entrusting him with the position and called on residents to work collectively towards a peaceful and prosperous Bunkpurugu.

He concluded with a call for unity and blessings for Bimoba land, Bunkpurugu and Ghana.

The new chief’s appeal places reconciliation and security at the centre of his leadership message, alongside commitments to education, youth opportunities and community development.
