Bugre community members lynch armed robber

Bolgatanga, Nov 30, GNA - An armed robber who shot dead Musah Hamid at Bugre in the Garu-Tempane District on Sunday night and bolted was caught and lynched.

The armed robber, Issaka Anakbi, 45, was noted for harassing traders and seizing his belongings on market days.

The Bawku Divisional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Adamu Seidu, told the GNA in an interview that on Sunday at about 1900 hours Hamid was returning from the Bugre market as it was a market day with a friend both riding motorbikes.

Hamid rode ahead of his friend and was stopped by two robbers. Hamid's friend rode pass them but stopped at a point when he heard a gun shot behind him.

Mr Seidu said Hamid's friend returned to the scene and saw Hamid lying in a pool of blood and struggling for breath. He said the robbers ran into a woman and fell and so their pursuers caught Alayap but the other robber escaped and said he is yet to be identified by the woman they run into.

The police officer said while the robber was being escorted to the chief's palace, some unidentified people in the crowed pounced on him, tied his hands behind him, beat him and dragged him to the Bugre Health Centre where was pronounced dead.

Mr Seidu said the robbery case had nothing to do with the Bawku conflict and that it was purely a criminal case. He appealed to members of the public especially those in the Widana area to make information on criminals available to police to enable the police to weed out such deviants from society.
