Brothers die after eating rat

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) -- Two brothers died instantly while four others fell into coma after allegedly eating rat in a farm at Nkyensedaho, a village near Bepotenten, in the Adansi West District of Ashanti.

The bodies of the deceased, Atinga Kusasi, 40 and Kwasi Kusasi, 25 have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for autopsy, while those in coma have been admitted at the Obuasi Government Hospital.

They were identified as Braimah Kusasi, Yaw Benkrugu, Ateda Kusasi and Kwadwo Kusasi. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Monday, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Officer, Chief Inspector I. K. Ofori said the men went to Kwadwo Kusasi's farm to work for him last week.

He said while weeding they saw a rat and killed it to prepare food to eat on the farm. Chief Inspector Ofori said Atinga and Kwasi Kussasi complained of severe stomach pains immediately after eating the meat and died instantly while the rest fell unconscious.

He said a search party later found them in the farm and rushed those in coma to the Obuasi Government Hospital while the Police conveyed the dead to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospitalfor autopsy.
