British High Commissioner commends Ghana News Agency

Accra, June 29, GNA - Mr Peter Jones, British High Commissioner to Ghana on Wednesday commended the Ghana News Agency (GNA) for its commitment to the promotion of programmes and activities of the Commission over the years.

He said globally Britain had prioritised development by focusing on health, education, political and economic activities of the people, adding his country shared a vibrant relationship with Ghana and would endeavour to improve on the cordial relationship between the two countries.

Mr Jones was speaking during a familiarisation tour of the headquarters of the GNA in Accra.

The envoy assumed office about six weeks ago and the visit was meant to acquaint him with the operations of the Agency and strengthen the existing cordial relations between the High Commission and the with government to create an effective society by reducing drug trafficking, combating crime and ensuring that Ghana retained her enviable status worldwide.

"We want to be part of the landscape for a longer time to help improve the general conditions of the people of Ghana," he said.

Mr Boakye-Dankwa Boadi, Acting General Manager of the GNA said since its inception, the Agency had always taken issues concerning the Commission serious and had often given it prominence in news coverage due to the historical relationship that existed between them.

He said since the Agency's establishment, its objectives included ensuring the total liberation of Africa, projecting African values, ensuring national cohesion and championing the course of national development.

Mr Boadi indicated that the Agency was able to reach billions of people worldwide through the bilateral partnership it had developed with other news agencies across the world, which enabled the GNA to exchange news with those foreign media organizations.
