Bredi and Kontonso embark on electrification project

Sunyani, April 16 GNA - The people of Bredi No. One and its and Kontonso in the Nkoranza District of Brong-Ahafo region are contributing 15,000 cedis a man and 10,000 cedis a woman towards the second-phase of the twin-town's electrification project.

Under the same project, elders of the towns are being levied 30,000 cedis each, while non-resident men and women are paying 50,000 cedis and 30,000 cedis each respectively.

The money, if collected, would enable the community to purchase additional 30 electricity poles to supplement the 65 poles provided by Mr Danso Abeam and his brother, Nana Adjei Ankomah, citizens of the town for the first-phase of the project, which was started three years ago.

Disclosing these to the Ghana News Agency at Sunyani, Mr. Samuel M. Acheampong, assemblyman for Bredi No.1 / Kontonso said levies were imposed at meeting at Bredi No. 1 on Friday, April Seven.

Both resident and non-resident citizens of the area should pay their contributions to ensure the speedy completion of the project. Mr Acheampong announced that Mr Mensah Boahen, a clearing agent at Tema and a native of Bredi No.1 has donated 1.5 million cedis for a water project in the community.

He appealed to the Nkoranza District Assembly to rehabilitate the Bredi No. 1 Local Authority Primary and Junior Secondary School (JSS) built some 40 years ago.

The JSS which serves students from five surrounding towns and villages has leaking roofs and classes have to be abandoned anytime it rains. It also lacks adequate furniture.

About 60 bags of cement would be needed to rehabilitate the two blocks, Mr Acheampong said, and on behalf of the community, thanked the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza, Madam Theresa Nyarko-Fofie, for donating two packets of roofing sheets towards the rehabilitation of the school.
