Boy, 7, guns down sister, 3, in Ashanti Region

Residents in Asoyeboa, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, have been thrown into a state of shock after a seven year-old boy shot and killed his three-years-old sister while playing with what is believed to be their father’s gun.

XYZ News sources in Kumasi say residents of the area are unable to tell the reason why the boy would shoot at his younger sister but reports say they were playing when the unfortunate incident occurred.

A medical doctor at the SDA Hospital in Kumasi, Dr. Agyemang Boateng, who gave the deceased first aid treatment told XYZ News that at about 3:pm, a man brought the girl to the hospital bleeding from the gunshot wound with her brain tissue gushing out.

Dr. Boateng narrates that the man who is a co-tenant in the house said around Wednesday afternoon, he “heard a gunshot and shortly after that a boy came to him saying that his sister had been shot.”

The doctor said the man rushed into the room and picked up the girl to the hospital. He said the doctors tried to stop the bleeding and referred the child to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He indicated that when the child was taken to the intensive care unit of KATH, she passed on “probably due to blood loss and or the swelling of the brain.”

Dr. Boateng said there will be a coroner’s enquiry into the death to determine the cause of death before any action can be taken.
