The Eastern Regional Minister-nominee, Rita Awatey, has outlined an ambitious plan to transform the region into a premier tourism hub by leveraging its diverse attractions and rich cultural heritage.

During her vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 23, 2025, she emphasized the untapped potential of the region and expressed her determination to attract investors to propel the tourism sector forward.

“The region has numerous tourism potentials. From the Akuapem area to Aburi, we have very beautiful hotels,” Awatey stated confidently.

“In Asuogyaman, we also have incredible natural resources,” she added, highlighting the region’s unique offerings.

Awatey pointed to renowned tourist attractions such as Boti Falls and paragliding activities in Kwahu, which already draw visitors but require further investment and development to maximize their potential.

“With the help of my stakeholders, we will conduct more feasibility studies in other areas and bring in investors to advance the region from where we are now,” she assured.

The Eastern Region boasts a wealth of natural and cultural treasures, positioning it as one of Ghana’s most promising tourism destinations.
