The newly appointed Bono East Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Rev Fr Kingsley Dwamena Asante, has declared a crackdown on examination malpractice across schools in the region.

According to Rev Fr Kingsley Dwamena Asante, the regional directorate under his leadership will not shield any student, teacher, invigilator, or school official found culpable, warning that offenders will face severe disciplinary and legal sanctions in accordance with regulations governing examinations.

“We will not protect anyone who engages in examination malpractice. Any student, teacher, invigilator or school official found guilty will face the full consequences of the law,” he cautioned.

Rev Fr Kingsley Dwamena Asante sounded the warning during a familiarisation visit to Yeji in the Pru East District, a move aimed at promoting collective vigilance, ethical conduct, and strict adherence to examination regulations to preserve the sanctity of the examination process and protect the reputation of the region’s educational institutions.

Describing the practice as a threat to academic integrity and the credibility of student certificates, he noted that examination malpractice also undermines hardworking students and teachers and weakens the country’s educational standards and values.

“The consequence of examination malpractice is dire because it not only undermines the efforts of diligent and hardworking students and teachers, but also diminishes the value and trust attached to academic qualifications as well as our educational system.”

He commended stakeholders for their continued commitment, support, and dedication to advancing education in the region. However, he urged them to help address the growing challenge of examination malpractice, stressing that it requires a collective and sustained effort from all segments of society.

“Safeguarding the credibility and integrity of examinations cannot be the responsibility of the education authorities alone, but must involve the active participation of families and communities in instilling discipline, honesty, and a strong sense of responsibility in students. So, I am urging you all to join the fight.”
