Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly holds town hall meeting

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Information Services Department has organized a “Town Hall” meeting to give the people the opportunity to engage with duty-bearers and to have a better understanding of how resources meant to transform their lives are being utilized.

It also provided the platform to sensitize them on the various interventions, policies and development programmes being implemented by the government.

This tied in with the nationwide drive to promote transparent and accountable governance
The meeting was used by the people to articulate their concerns and felt needs.

Traditional and opinion leaders, assembly members, public and civil servants, trade associations and members of the general public attended.
Mr. Joseph Atura Amiyuure, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), highlighted efforts the assembly was making to bring progress to the area.

“I am happy to inform you that the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has so far lived up to the expectation of the people through prudent management and implementation of several pro-poor policies aimed at improving upon the lot of the people.”

He applauded the security agencies for the good job they had been doing to maintain peace in the municipality and encouraged all to work together to keep the area calm - free from conflicts.

Mr Amiyuure announced that farm inputs including improved seeds and 13,695 bags of fertilizers had been distributed to 824 farmers under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme to increase food production and to enhance food security in the municipality.

There had also been an expansion of the school feeding programme – to cover 57 schools with a combined population of 22,000 children.
This is up from previous year’s 33 schools and beneficiary population of 13,105 pupils.

The MCE said the assembly had spent GH?247,161.91 to improve sanitation.
It had additionally partnered organizations such as the International Development Association (IDA) and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to implement the Community Led Total Sanitation Programme (CLTS) to encourage people to build household toilets.
