Boat disaster victims get relief items

Tapa Abotoase (V/R), April 15, GNA - Mr Solomon Donkor, the Jasikan District Chief Executive, has presented relief items to the victims of the Abotoase Boat disaster at a ceremony at Abotoase.

The items include 10 bags of rice, 20 blankets, 20 straw mats, three cartons of mackerel (tinned fish), three Jerry Can containers of cooking oil plastic plates and cups.

Mr Donkor expressed the government's sympathy to the victims and condolence to the bereaved families of those who died in the accident last Saturday.

He advised the people to register with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for any future assistance that might be available to them.

The accident occurred about three nautical miles west of Abotoase when a boat travelling between Dudjoeme and Abotoase with foodstuffs, livestock and passengers capsized after hitting an underwater object during a rainstorm.

Nana Oppong Amaniapong 11, Krontihene of Tapa Amanyo, Mrs. Rebecca Nabako, assemblywoman for Tapa Abotoase and some opinion leaders supervised the distribution of the items to the victims.
