Board undertaking restoration works on Fort Apollonia at Beyin

Beyin (W/R), April 4, GNA - The Ghana Museum and Monuments Board is undertaking restoration works on Fort Apollonia at Beyin with support from an Italian Non-Governmental Organization, Co-operation for the Development of Emerging Countries (COSPE).

Mr. John Kwesi Arthur, a Senior Inspector of the Ghana Museum and Monument Board told the press who visited the fort at the weekend that the project started in July last year, is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

He said the fort developed cracks and the foundation was getting weak and restoration works included renovation, refurbishment and re-roofing. Mr. Arthur said the fort was built by the British in the 1760's and the first rehabilitation was undertaken in about 1956 and second one in the 1960's.
