A seven-member executive committee of the Ghana National Bureau, ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has been inducted into office.

The new Board, whose members were elected in December 2018, will supervise affairs of the Bureau for a period of two years to December 31, 2020.

The newly-inducted members are Victor Obeng, Managing Director (MD) of Unique Insurance Company Limited; Henry, Bukari, MD of Phoenix Insurance Company Limited; Matthew Aidoo, MD of Priority Insurance Company Ltd.; Solomon Lartey, MD of Activa International Insurance Company; Mabel Nana Nyarkoa Porbley, MD of SAHAM Insurance Ghana Ltd.; Patrick Agyekum, General Secretary of Ghana National Bureau, ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme; and Godfred Djanie, MD of Millennium Insurance Company Ltd.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Mr. Obeng-Adiyiah said his team will bring life to the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme Protocol, while building upon the work of former Bureau leadership.

He added that the new committee will, among other mandates, focus on pursuing fair and prompt settlement of cross-border claims; creating public awareness on the scheme’s relevance; and efficiently managing the Bureau’s finances.

Mr. Obeng-Adiyiah further noted that it is unacceptable for both local insurers and those from other ECOWAS member-countries to renege on their basic duty of fair and prompt claims settlement when it comes to cross-border accidents, adding: “The board will therefore be collaborating with the Permanent Secretariat of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, which is based in Lome, Togo, to achieve this”.

In outlining the Publicity and Public Education programmes for 2019, the new chair said that beneficiaries will include the judiciary, medical doctors, truck-drivers and truck owners’ associations.
