Block maker fined for stealing pallets

Juaso (Ash), July 12, GNA - A Juaso Circuit Court has imposed a fine 1.2 million cedis on a Block-Maker, who stole block-making pallets to hire out for a fee.

Kwadwo Kwarkye, 39, the Block-Maker, who pleaded guilty, would go to prison for 12 months if he failed to pay the fine. The Court ordered that 200,000 cedis of the fine, if paid, should be given to the owner as compensation.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Joe Adams told the Court presided over by Jacob Boon that in the early part of this year, Ms Monica Agyepomaa, a Business Woman, engaged Kwarkye to mould blocks for her and gave him 30 bags of cement and a number of pallets for the work.

He said when the woman came later to inspect the project, she found out that Kwarkye had produced 400 blocks less than required number and she reported the matter to the Police.

Inspector Adams said Kwarkye subsequently paid for the 13 bags of cement that he should have used to mould the 400 blocks. However, he could not account for the pallets and said they were stolen, when he left the project site.

Inspector Adams said Monica later found out that Kwarkye took the pallets and had been hiring them out for a fee and she reported the matter to Police.
