Former Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Maxwell Kofi Jumah is blaming traditional rulers for the inability of city authorities to enforce laws as well structure development in tune with proposed architectural plans which is stifling the development of the once upon a time Garden City.
He accused the chiefs of indiscriminately selling lands with the connivance of some businessmen who go about rezoning such parcels of land without recourse to the assembly.
“Nananom and Assembly Members are the cause of Kumasi’s problems. The chiefs sell out lands indiscriminately without recourse to the assembly. Some Nananom connive with some businessmen to do rezoning and do not contact the assembly for the proper thing to be done”, he revealed on Abusua FM’s ‘Abusua Nkommo’ hosted Luther King Kwame Adinkra.
According to him, the quality of assembly members are of very low with little or no urban development backgrounds yet are those said to be championing the sale of priority lands within the city.
“ They are only interested in placing kiosks and containers by the roadsides. They should start thinking of bringing investment into their electoral area instead of collapsing the few ones already in place”, he advised.
The former Deputy Local Government Minister said almost all the big companies in Kumasi have collapsed due to activities of the assembly and chiefs.
“Acquiring land has been a disincentive and more people are relocating to Accra”. He revealed.
He urged Nananom to organize ‘Come back home ‘ for Kumasi natives who have relocated to Accra in order to set up businesses to open employment opportunities for the youth.
