Blame Zoomlion 'disgrace' on Ghanaian politicians - IMANI

Vice President of policy think tank, IMANI Ghana says the World Bank’s recent debarring of Ghanaian waste company Zoomlion over a bribery allegation in Liberia, underscores the sub-culture of corruption in the Ghanaian society.

Zoomlion will not benefit from any contract from the World Bank for the next two years as a sanction.

The company has admitted committing the infraction and says it has sanctioned the officer involved.

Mr. Kofi Bentil in an interview with XYZ News said politicians are to blame the most for the festering sub culture.

An anonymous businessman who confirmed the endemic practice to XYZ News described the phenomenon as a canker.

He stated that businessmen and contractors are virtually at the mercy of politicians and civil servants who demand their cut before awarding them contracts.
