Former President John Dramani Mahama says the mere presence of big names in the economic management team of the government is not an antidote to the hardships facing Ghanaians.

He said there is a viral video on social media in which some leaders of the NPP are seen boasting of the depth of experience of its economic management team and mocking that of the former government.

Speaking to delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Wa Campus of the University for Development Studies, Mr Mahama asked whether those big names have solved the prevailing economic problems in the country.

He said, on a comparative basis, the relatively less known members of his government’s economic management team performed very well to solve the economic challenges that faced the country.

"Big names don't manage economies, you don’t need big names to manage economies. Yes nobody knew the names of NDC economic management team but we managed the economy and managed it well", Mahama stressed.

The former President noted that the NPP government, after claiming to have paraded big names in its economic management team are still struggling with the management of the economy, making Ghanaians complain of hardships, with many businesses also collapsing.

He told delegates that the NPP after lying to win political power in 2016 are not able to fulfill their promises to Ghanaians.

Mahama mentioned the one district one factory, one village one dam, one bar of chocolate per school child and providing jobs for all, among many other unfulfilled promises.
