Former president John Mahama has been advised by managing editor of the Daily Dispatch Ben Ephson to pick for a running mate an Akan so as to boost his chances of winning the presidential elections of 2020.

Ben Ephson, who is also a pollster, was on Starr FM on Monday in the aftermath of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party elections that happened on Saturday at the Trade Fair at La.

According to Ephson, the former President cannot afford to pick a non-Akan as running mate considering the complex nature of the country’s political system.

The party elected onto its national executive, mostly Akan members.

This was not something that went down well with former national executive, Anita DeSoso, an Ewe.

Ephson said: “If Mahama wins as flagbearer of the NDC, it will not be advisable for him to choose a Voltarian or Ga as a running mate. He will have to take an Akan as a running mate for balance".

He continued: “Anita De Sooso got only about 300 votes when she contested but that doesn’t mean only 300 people from the Volta Region voted. One can tell that delegates voted for quality and not based on Regionality".

Ephson mentioned that what was noteworthy was the election of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to the chairmanship.

He believes he will be a check on re-elected general secretary Asiedu Nketia.

The NDC will hold in December its flagbearer elections. John Mahama is seen as the frontrunner into the elections.
