Belira Netherlands donates ambulance to Ghana

Tema, Sept. 19, GNA- Capt Nkrabea Effa-Darteh (RTD), a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, on Friday called for support for the government to ensure that the National Insurance Health Scheme becomes workable.

He said the scheme will help to alleviate the suffering of the masses in terms of medical care.

Capt Effa-Darteh was receiving an ambulance worth 14,000 dollars donated by the Belira Netherlands, a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The Deputy Minister, who is the president of Belira Ghana, sister organisation of the Belira Netherlands, recounted an incident where a pregnant woman in a rural area lost her life because she could not afford the high transportation and hospital bills.

He therefore appealed to Ghanaians to agree to the government's proposal.

He said the ambulance will be sent to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mr Ascanio Russo, Director of Oceanic Ro Shipping Services Ghana Limited, presented the ambulance on behalf of the donors.

Belira Netherlands has donated 10 hospital beds, a set of furniture, and computer and accessories worth 50 million cedis to some rural communities.
