Bekwai MP wants funerals regulated

Bekwai (Ash), April 16, GNA - Mr Joe Osei-Wusu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Bekwai, has proposed to the Bekwai Traditional Council to regulate funeral activities in the area. He explained that such a move was necessary to save time, cost and resources that were normally wasted on funerals. Addressing a meeting of Bekwai citizens in the Diaspora and those living elsewhere in the country at Bekwai, the MP advocated that funerals should be held once a month in the traditional areas as was being practiced elsewhere.

The meeting was to enable the citizens brainstorm on the way forward for the development of Bekwai as well as foster unity among citizens. Mr Osei-Wusu said funerals had to be regulated in the area to minimize frequent visits of citizens living in the Diaspora with its attendant risk.

The MP commended the Nkosuohene of Bekwai, Nana Ankobeah Siaw for his vision of putting up a recreational centre and urged the citizens to be supportive of the project to ensure its early completion. He also praised Bekwai citizens in the United States of America (USA) for their continuous sponsorship of brilliant but needy students to enable them further their education. So far, 58 students have benefited from the sponsorship scheme. 16 April 09
