Bear With Us If Fuel Prices Are Increased - JAK

President Kufuor has appealed to Ghanaians to bear with the government in the event of increases in the prices of petroleum products. The increases, he said, may be necessary to raise revenue for development in view of the economic problems facing the country. According to him, contrary to what people think, government does not get any revenue from the current prices of petroleum products adding that it is time people pay more to enable government generate revenue form petroleum products.

The President says government will not hide the truth from Ghanaians since any government, which does so is bound to fail. He also justified the new tariffs for utility services, which according to him, were meant to recover production costs and improve service delivery.

The President was speaking at a durbar organized in his honour by the Chiefs and people of Wenchi as part of his four-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region. He urged the people to ignore politicians who after losing power through the ballot box preach coup d’etats as a means of changing constitutionally elected governments.

He also pledged his government’s commitment to improving Agriculture, the backbone of the economy. The Energy Minister, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah recently indicated that there would be an increase in petroleum products.
