Berekum (B/A), Mar 3, GNA - Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, Paramount Chief of the Berekum Traditional Area, has called on Ghanaians to be mindful of the food they eat to extend their life span. He particularly mentioned the high consumption of meat, which he said was not important in the growth and development of the body. Daasebre Amankona Diawuo, a surgical specialist, was interacting with the chiefs, elders and a section of the public at Berekum after his return from Demona, a community of Jewish Americans in Israel. He was part of a five-member delegation from the Ministry Chieftaincy and Culture to discuss health, agriculture, tourism and education matters between the two countries.

Other members of the delegation that was led by Mr. Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture, were Osagyefo Oseadeyo Ameyaw-Akumfi, Nii Odai Ayiku, and Togbe Atikpo. Daasebre Amankona Diawuo cautioned Ghanaians especially the youth against drug abuse, alcoholism and other practices, which did not promote their health.

He stressed the importance of preventive health care to enable the government to expand health-care and the economy to ensure national development.

The Surgical Specialist noted that the people of Demona, who were mainly vegetarians had not recorded any death for the past 40 years and attributed it to the food they ate and their habit of environmental cleanliness.

He said the delegation, which was received by Nana Owusu Nsiah, Ghana's Ambassador to Israel, tour places like the birth place of Jesus Christ, where he was crucified, buried and the site he ascended to heaven. 03 Mar 07
