Former deputy Finance minister Cassiel Ato Forson has described the presentation on the government’s performance on the economy by the Vice President as mediocre.

He said Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was short on substance in the presentation because all necessary information on the economy had been given by the Finance minister Ken Ofori Atta in Parliament earlier.

“I watched the presentation by our Vice President and I find it mediocre, in fact it’s mediocrity at its height. He was out staged by the finance minister in parliament so he had virtually nothing to say,” he told Starr News Ibrahim Alhassan after the Town hall meeting by the Economic Management Team of government.

Dr Bawumia who heads President Akufo Addo’s Economic Management Team gave an account on the wobbly performance of the cedi and the outlook of the country’s macroeconomic indicators.

He used the platform to announce a 50% reduction on import duties at the ports and 30% reduction on vehicle import.

He also claimed “our worst is better than your best and you say ‘boot for boot’? This one is more like boot for chalewate”.

He has challenged the NDC to provide data to prove the economy is on a nosedive. He said the economy is on a sound footing with credible data available to support that claim.

“These are based on credible data and let anyone who disagrees bring his data,” Bawumia served notice in his presentation dubbed: “Our progress, Our status, Our future.”

According to him, statistics available indicate the economy is performing better than previous governments.

“Inflation has dropped from a high of 15.4% at the beginning of last year to 9% this year,” Bawumia noted adding, “Lending rates are also falling from 32% to 22$.”
