Bawumia’s Free SHS Policy: Scraps Single Spine

His Aide Reveals

Latest information picked up by The Informer as regards Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s plans of funding the much-trumpeted but utterly impossible free Senior High School (SHS) education policy, as put forth by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), confirms why the likes of Hon Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori, and Joseph Henry Mensah were strongly against his candidature to partner Nana Akufo-Addo as his running mate for this year’s election.
Having contributed immensely to sending Ghana’s economy into an intensive-care with skyrocketing rate of inflation once a deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana (BOG), during the erstwhile Kufuor-led NPP administration, the Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP, again wants to be remembered for plunging the people of Ghana into another bout of hardship, as he intend to scrap the current Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) that has brought much relief to Ghanaian workers.
According to one of his closest aides who spoke to The Informer on condition of anonymity, Dr. Bawumia has hinted his intention of scrapping the SSSS presently under implementation, if the NPP is voted into power, because, he is of the view that it is a waste of resources.
“Automatically the one to be in-charge of the economic management team of the country, should the NPP get the nod come December 07, 2012 to once rule this country, my boss believes that all the resources channelled into the implementation of the SSSS can take care of the fee-free SHS education policy that Akufo-Addo intends to bring on board”, the insider pointed out.
“In fact, he made it clear to me that he will advise his boss (Akufo Addo) and insist that the SSSS policy be abolished in the event that they come to power “, he added.
“ Even though he was not able to convince me as of why he thinks the SSSS should be abolished and the resources used to implement the free SHS education policy, he was adamant, but says the SSSS is a complete waste of the taxpayer’s money”, the Bawumia’s aide stated
“I won’t be surprised if it comes to light that he proposes the free-SHS education policy to his boss when they have no means of carrying out the said policy, having shown keen interest in the matter to the extent of his decision to deny Ghanaian workers the goodies associated with the SSSS”, he hinted.
“According to Dr. Bawumia, the resources should be spend on education of children and not lining the pockets of their parents with money, where in some instances, they even don’t care about their children’s education”, the source further added, saying it is because his boss went and disgraced himself at the BBC “HARD Talk” when he failed to disclose how he intend to fund his free SHS policy, he wants to salvage his image with this, then he must be joking.
“I now know why many in the NPP were against his candidature of partnering Nana for the 2012 election, believing that he has nothing good to offer. With his avowed position to abolished the SSSS alone speaks volume of how he will be a failure, if he is placed in-charge of the country’s economic management team” , the insider concludes.
This is the person people like Abdul Malik Kweku Baako and Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey think he has what it takes to turn the economic fortunes of this country round.
In fact, if collapsing the SSS is Bawumia’s new economic term, then he better forget about his dream of becoming Vice President of this Republic since Ghanaians are not prepared to tolerate any of his killer-policies.
